Alan from West Ballina wanted a weather proof room at the back of his home where he and his family and friends would be able to spend time relaxing. Even though Alan already had a nice little flat patio roof, the usable area was quite small, as the prevailing weather blew right in from the back of the house.
Alan’s backyard was bright, sunny and inviting. Unfortunately, the shaded area was quite small, and rain would frequently force him inside.
Rain and cold wind in winter meant the patio was not used as often as it should be in the winter or rainy months. Also, as with a lot of Ballina (and other North Coast homes), the sun in summer is too hot to bear. Alan wanted the ideal alfresco area – somewhere to relax and entertain without the worry of the weather spoiling the party.
Geoff, the Design Consultant from Atlas Awnings, visited Alan talking through his requirements. They decided on an All Seasons vinyl sliding panel solution to enclose the extended area. The sliding doors can be opened to catch the breeze in the summer or closed to keep out the cold in the winter. The durable weather and UV resistant vinyl product is long lasting, lightweight and comes in a variety of configurations. These panels are for non-habitable areas, so Alan did not require Council Approval.

Once the decision was made to enclose the room, Geoff and Alan talked about making the room larger than the existing patio. They chose to extend the roof with a gabled insulated patio awning to match with the existing roof.
This meant Alan could have a much larger and more open space, with the extra height from the gabled roof. This also allowed LED lighting to be installed, further increasing the available hours spent in the outdoors area.
The gabled roof added a larger, more open space for the alfresco entertainment area. The garden was now viewable in a shady, insect free environment.
The added comfort of the insulated roofing panels added a cleaner finish to the gabled roof, as well as helping to regulate the heat over summer.
The finished area is ideal for Alan’s needs.
