Paul and Jill had a fantastic alfresco area in their new Ballina home. Unfortunately, it wasn’t getting the use they expected. The hot summer suns were streaming in of an afternoon, and during winter, the cold westerlies blew straight through. As is also the case for a Ballina patio, the midges for most of the times you wish you were outdoors were unbearable.
They wanted to do something to increase the time they spent outside, so they called Atlas Awnings.
Geoff, our Design Consultant, visited their home and suggested an All Seasons enclosed room, which protects the alfresco area from the elements by using vinyl panels in the sliding and fixed doors.
To resolve the midge problem, Geoff suggested midge mesh be fixed to those panels which were not used for access. This will allow Paul and Jill to open the sliding doors in this area to catch the breeze but stop those annoying insects from coming in.

The existing outdoor area was a beautiful modern patio, but as the photo shows, open to sun, wind and rain. There was also no protection from biting insects.
To finalise the area a fixed vinyl gable sheet was installed in the top of the All Seasons panels. This let in filtered light, and kept the feeling of openness above the sliding doors.
As you can see from the photos, the area also backed onto a public road. An added advantage of All Season Patio Panels is the added privacy. While it will not provide a complete privacy block like the Altas range of shutters and privacy screens, it will decrease the openness of facing directly onto a public area, without blocking the view.

The sliding panels could be stacked away, opening the western side of the house to full breeze. Midge screen was installed from top to bottom, to easily cover and protect from insects.
By enclosing this fantastic alfresco area with these stylish vinyl panels the area can be used all year around day and night as they will block the cold winter temperatures and the hot summer sun.
All Seasons enclosed rooms are not deemed a habitable room; therefore no Council approval was required.

The new room doesn’t obstruct the view but protects the patio from sun, wind and rain. By sliding the panels, the room can be used in any weather condition.
Paul and Jill were delighted with their new room saying:
“It is a pleasure to be able to use this room. We have controlled the weather”
