Ray from Goonellabah was interested in making a few improvements to his home. His house had a double lock up garage at the end of a long driveway, with no access straight from the garage into the living area. For convenience, during the day, Ray and the family would park in the driveway, so they could easily come and go without putting the car in the shed.

The driveway for this Goonellabah home was very spacious and frequently used, so much so that getting in and out of the garage was an inconvenience. It was also very exposed to the sun and rain.
This presented a few problems. In the middle of summer, Lismore residents need to protect their cars from the soaring heat and fierce storms. It only takes minutes for a car left in the sun to become unbearably hot and unpacking the car after shopping in the wet weather is not a pleasant experience.
Ray needed something that helped protect the cars from the hot sun, and also keep the area dry and comfortable in wet and cold weather. To meet Ray’s requirements, Atlas Awnings recommended an insulated carport to the side of the house and in front of the garages.

The finished carport. The insulated roof gives the area a more private feel, and also solves all the main problems – protection from the hot sun, and protection from rain.
The insulated roof allows Ray and his family to come and go throughout the day leaving the cars out of the garage and having protection from the heat and wet weather. Another benefit is the garage doors are now protected from the sun, therefore making it cooler.
The finished insulated carport also finished off the front of the house, making the home seem larger while keeping the front entrance more private. Atlas matched the colours of the existing building to make the carport addition look like a part of the original house.
Ray was excited with the result:
